Mead F. Hansen, age 89, of 1301 Grand Ave., Manitowoc, died Monday evening, Dec. 23, 1991 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, Dec. 27, 1991 at Reinbold, Pfeffer, Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home. Deacon William Klein will officiate with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
He was born May 29, 1902 in Manitowoc, son of the late Mead B. and Azuba Underwood Hansen. He lived in Manitowoc all his life. He attended local schools and graduated from Washington high School. He also attended Manitowoc Business College. At age 22, he became the Manitowoc Scout Executive. He remained with the Boy Scouts until 1929 when he became manager at the Credit Bureau. A year later he became one of the five organizers of the Community Fund. While he was the executive of the Manitowoc Credit Bureau, it became known as the Manitowoc Chamber of Commerce. He retired from the Chamber of Commerce in 1964 but he remained for three more years as the executive secretary/director of the United Fund. Mr. Hansen was an active promoter for Manitowoc County all his life. He married the former Evelyn M. Woerfel on Sept. 17, 1925 at Manitowoc. He was a member of the Manitowoc Chapter No. 138 of the Izaak Walton League.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, one son and daughter-in-law, Mead R. and Monica Hansen of Sturgeon Bay; six grandchildren, William and Diane Gorychka Hansen of Manitowoc, Linda Hansen of Two Rivers, Jennifer and Roger Levendusky of Sturgeon Bay, Paul and Katherine Hansen of Sister Bay, Martha and Eric Dename of Sister Bay, ;Sarah and Douglas Schoenwalder of Green Bay; five great grandchildren, one brother, Russell Hansen of Manitowoc; one sister, Eleanor Strupp of Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Friends may call at Reinbold Pfeffer Urbanek and Schlei North Street Chapel from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday and Friday until the time of services. Memorials may be made to Friends of Camp Sinawa, Valders, Wis.
