JAN HYNEK (d. 1931)

JOHN HYNEK, VET CO. BOARD MEMBER, DIES
Pioneer of Town of Franklin Passes Away at Homestead after Lingering Illness
John J. Hynek, 76, for many years a member of the county board of supervisors
from the town of Franklin, and who also served his town as town treasurer and
his school district as clear, passed away this morning at six o'clock at the
family homestead. He had been in failing health for several months.
Mr. Hynek, who represented Franklin on the county board for a dozen years,
retired from public life three years ago when his health first began to fail.
He was of a robust frame and his jovial mood and accommodating manners won for
him hosts of friends, both among his fellow board members and from his many
constituents in the township. His death marked the passing of a county resident
who had spent three quarters of a century in the county.
Burial on Friday
Burial will take place on Friday afternoon from the homestead in the town of
Franklin. Services at 1:30 will be in charge of Henry Cizek, and burial will
be at Evergreen cemetery in this city. The home tomorrow from the Wattawa,
Urbanek and Schlei parlors in this city (sic)
John Hynek was born in Bohemia, Sept. 5, 1854, and removed to this country
with his parents when an infant. The family settled in this county, taking up
a farm in Franklin. There the deceased grew to manhood. He was married to Miss
Antonia Kopitlansky of Franklin, July 3, 1877 and they continued to reside on
the farm homestead. Beside his widow the deceased is survived by one daughter,
Mrs. Jacob Yanda, of Kossuth, two sons, Joseph and Wencel, of Franklin, 11
grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
First named as town treasurer, which position he filled for three years Mr.
Hynek was chosen clerk of the school district, which he filled for many years.
Still later he was chosen chairman of the town board and as such represented
Franklin on the county board here for more than eleven years.
The deceased, during his term on the county board, served on many of the
important committees of the board.
