GEORGE E. KROLL

Word has been received of the death of George E. Kroll, 52, at Honolulu, Hawaii,
where he had been residing at a hotel. Death was unexpected.
Mr. Kroll was born at Manitowoc Sept. 1, 1907, son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Anton J. Kroll. He attended St. Mary Parochial School and after graduation went
to Chicago where he was employed by Chicago Bridge and Iron Works. In 1936, he
moved to California and worked for Richfield Oil Co. aboard the U.S.A. Augie
World in ocean going oil transport.
During World War II, he served in the merchant marines, transporting oil. One of
his ships was sunk in combat and he spent 24 hours in a life boat before being
rescued.
After the war he continued sailing for several concerns and at the time of his
death was attached to the S.S. Valiant Hope. He concluded more than 25 years of
sailing with the rank of third assistant engineer.
Mr. Kroll never married.
Surviving are three brothers, Frank of Long Beach, Calif., Leon of Milwaukee and
Anton, a twin brother, of Manitowoc; and two sisters, Mrs. Marie Siebel of Long
Beach and Mrs. James B. Young of Newark, Ohio.
