Marian Ruth (Thompson) Landon, age 90, of Manitowoc, died on Saturday, Aug. 23,
2008, at the Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Marian was born on May 22, 1918, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Norman and
Helen (Flentje) Thompson. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Manitowoc,
class of 1936. On Dec. 4, 1937, she married John P. Landon at St. John's United
Church of Christ. He preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1998. Marian began her
career with the Manitowoc County Selective Service Department, and then was
employed with the Social Security Administration. She was a member of St. John's
United Church of Christ, the church choir, and the VFW Auxillary. Marian was one
of Manitowoc's top bowlers. She began bowling in 1943 and was active for 46 years.
Marian was a member of the Manitowoc Women's Bowling Association. She bowled her
first 600 in 1953. By 1962, she bowled 14 series of 600 or more. Marian was the
1965 champion of the 600 tournament. She was an officer in the state 600 club, and
a charter member of the club. Marian was past president of the Manitowoc Women's
Bowling Association for seven years, and past treasurer for five years. In 1967,
she bowled on the WBAY-TV bowling show in Green Bay. She won the first week and
lost the second. Marian was a member of the board of directors for the Junior
Bowling Program and also a bowling instructor. She was inducted into the Manitowoc
Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame on April 29, 2007, and was also an inductee
of the United States Bowling Congress Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

Marian was also preceded in death by one grandson: Randy Landon; one brother:
Clarence Thompson; one sister: Helen Jacob; and three brothers-in-law and one
sister-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at St. John's
United Church of Christ, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be the Rev.
Dr. James Klein, with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, from 5
to 8 p.m. at the Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center.
The visitation will continue on Friday at St. John's United Church of Christ,
Manitowoc, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the
family with funeral arrangements.
