JOHN VAN SERKE
John Van Serke, 85, of 2207 Washington St., Manitowoc, died at his home at 8:25
a.m. Sunday. He was stricken while attending Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church
and died on the anniversary of his birth.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc,
and at 9 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. John Landowski will officiate
and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Van Serke was born at Milwaukee Feb. 9, 1873, son of the late Michael and
Katherine Abel Van Serke. He came to Manitowoc in 1916. Mr. Van Serke married
Helen Kluck Oct. 29, 1894. He had been employed 50 years by Chicago and North
Western Railroad, retiring in 1944. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of
the church.
Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Francis Brady, Mrs._________ and
Mrs. Alvin Klein of Manitowoc; ;six sons, Donald and Joseph of Detroit, Ernest,
Philip and Ed of Milwaukee and Carl of Manitowoc; a brother, Felix and a sister,
Mrs. Helen Traidter of Stevens Point and eight grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday where the Rosary will
be recited at 7 p.m.
