Richard Van Serke Dies At Madison Hospital
Richard Van Serke, 31, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Van Serke, 2207 Washington
street, died at a hospital in Madison late Tuesday of injuries received early
Monday in a head-on automobile collision which previously caused the death of
Nicholas Spatola, 22, of Madison.
An inquest has been delayed until the other five persons injured in the crash
recover sufficiently to testify.
The body was brought to Manitowoc this afternoon and will be taken to the Van
Serke residence Thursday morning. Funeral services will be held Friday morning
at 9 o’clock at St. Mary’s church and burial will be at Evergreen cemetery.

Van Serke did not regain consciousness before his death. He sustained a fractured
skull. He was identified by officials of the firm for whom he worked in Madison
for the last five months. Relatives were summoned to the bedside Tuesday morning.
He was born at Ashland, Wis., Oct. 4, 1904(sic). The family moved to this city
about 20 years ago and Richard attended public schools and later the business
college. He also took a night course at Marquette university for two years.
Survivors are one son, Richard Jr., the parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Van Serke, three
sisters, Mrs. Al Klein, city, and Frances and Louise at home; and five brothers,
Don and Joseph, Detroit, Mich., Ernest, Green Bay, Edward and Carl at home.
