Funeral services for James Whitson Sr., 73, who passed away June 10, 1998, were held June 13 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. Aircraft from the Crossville Memorial Airport flew over the cemetery in tribute to Mr. Whitson.
He was born March 22, 1925 in Sumner County, the son of E.B. and Lillian Atwood Whitson.
Mr. Whitson was the manager of Crossville Memorial Airport, and he was a member of Homestead Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Shelby Jean Seals Whitson of Crossville; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Whitson and Peggy Simpson and Dennis R. and Sandy Whitson, all of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Latricia and Mark Bradshaw of Crossville; daughter-in-law, Joyce Whitson of Crossville; stepdaughters, Kimberly Ellis and Robin Myers of Crossville; brother, Edd Whitson of Crossville, Leroy and Bob Whitson, both of Nashville, and John Whitson of Gainesboro, TN; sisters, Elsie Carter of Ashland City, TN, and Ivy Barnes of Whitehouse, TN; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Whit Whitson Jr.; parents, E.B. and Lillian Whitson; and wife, Emma Jean Whitson.
Pallbearers were Roger Phillips, John Dooley, Chris Seals, Kenneth Burnett, John Donnelly and David Randolph.
Bro. Noble Wright officiated, with special rememberances by wife, Shelby Jean Whitson, and special friend, Bill Jones.
Bilbrey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
