Margaret Thomas and her husband William Lewis, both natives of Wales, were some of the early settlers of Girard, Ohio. To their marriage were born five children: Charlotte, William, Thomas, Frederick, and Margaret. The first two children were born in Wales.

New information shared by R. Lewis (2018-21) shows that Margaret's father was Hugh Thomas and that she was born in Llanfachraeth, Anglesey, Wales. Margaret's mother's name is not clear at this time. Margaret's birth place on the 1851 Census is listed as Machraeth, or Michael. The "Llan-" prefix translates as "Parish of the Saint". Llanfachraeth is the Parish of Saint Michael. An official birth record for Margaret has not yet been found. In the 1820s churches in Wales were Anglican and associated with the Church of England.

Margaret Thomas and William Lewis were married 14 May 1850 in Llanfachraeth. The document also gave William's parents as Hugh and Dorothy (Williams) Lewis. The 1851 Census in Wales was taken the night of March 30th and the couple was still in Llanfachraeth. William was a Factory Man at age 26 and Margaret was a homekeeper at age 25. Daughter Charlotte was born in July of 1851 or 1852. William, Jr's birth date is unknown and his obituary in 1919 said he was 8 weeks old when the family arrived in Ohio.

The family matches an immigration record for a William Lewis that entered Ohio in 1854. It has not yet been proven to be this family. They are clearly named in the 1860 Census in Youngstown, Mahoning County, OH. William Lewis is listed as a coal miner, age 30. Margaret is 31 and the children include Charlotte at 9, William Jr at 7, Thomas at 4, Fred at 3 and Margaret at 3/12.

In the 1870 Census the family was in Weathersfield, Trumbull county, Ohio and William Sr was no longer with the family. No further information on him has ever been found. Margaret had married John Davis in 1869, Charlotte had left the family to marry, William Jr (17) and Thomas (14) were listed as coal miners, Fred was 12 and little Margaret was 10. A four year old girl named Ella/Ellen Jones was born in 1866 in PA and was included as a part of the family. Over the years Ellen was listed as a half-sister to the original five children. Her birth is a mystery.

Margaret (Thomas) Lewis Davis married for a third time on October 31, 1881 to David T. Lewis, an iron boiler, in Liberty Twp., Trumbull County.

When Margaret died on 13 April 1905 she was estranged from her children. Her burial is listed as Liberty Girard Cemetery, but no stone with her specific information has been found. She might be in Plot 72 with Ellen's family with a "Mother" stone. The photograph of Margaret was kindly shared by Kathie, a descendant of Charlotte.
