William E. Falvey, age 83 a resident of 2709 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc, died Monday, September 25, 2000, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Ronald Reimer at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 28, 2000, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Entombment will follow at Knollwood Mausoleum. Military Rites will be accorded by the Drews Bleser American Legion Post #88.
Bill was born November 11, 1916, at Maple Grove, Wis., son of the late Peter and Pearl Brennan Falvey. He married Genrose Brunner on April 8, 1942. William was a graduate of the Manitowoc County Normal School and taught until entering the Armed Services on October 12, 1942. He was wounded in France on August 6, 1944. During his tour of duty he received two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. On March 26, 1946, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Bill joined the Manitowoc County Traffic Department on May 1, 1946. After serving nine years he was promoted to Lieutenant. In 1965, he received an additional promotion to the rank of Captain which he held until hi retirement. He was with the County Traffic Department for a total of 27 years. Bill then became the Manitowoc County Clerk of Court, a position he held for six years, but was forced to retire due to ill health. During his 27 years with the Manitowoc County Traffic Department, Bill was appointed to the Governor’s Council on Law Enforcement. He also was a member of the County Traffic Officers Association of Wisconsin and served as their secretary for many years. He was the first president of the Manitowoc County Credit Union, a position he held for five years. Other memberships include St. Paul’s Catholic Church, where he served as a trustee and an usher, the Drews Bleser American Legion Post 88, and the Disabled American Veterans. Among Bill’s many interests, he especially enjoyed the special friendships he made while playing cards, and laying and coaching fast pitch softball.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Genrose; five children, Lloyd (Paulette) Falvey, Randall Falvey, all of Manitowoc, Marilyn and DarleneFalvey, both of Las Vegas, Nev., William Falvey, Jr., California; four grandchildren, Cindy (Lee) Hoeffner, Wendy, Tony, and Theresa Falvey; two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Hailey Schmidt; three sisters, Marie (Jerry) Duggan, Margaret Lensmeyer, all of rural Manitowoc, Helen (Norm) Meyer, Manitowoc; three sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Simon, Katherine Brunner, Flossie Kohlbeck; one brother-in-law, Ray Brunner. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leo and Leland Falvey; three brothers-in-law, Frank Lensmeyer, Ray Kohlbeck, Howard Brunner; and one sister-in-law, Imogene Brunner.
Friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m. A prayer service will be held Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. led by Deacon William Klein.
