Leo was a son of Danial A. Affolter and Anna M. Baird. His grandfather Gottlieb Affolter came to the USA from Switzerland. Leo married Mary Catherine Baker about 1920 and they had 7 children. Leo worked as a stationary engineer (boiler fireman). He retired from the Moore Enameling Co. in West Lafayette, Ohio.

Leo and Mary followed his parents and his brother to Texas where they had several of their children. They returned to Ohio where their children were raised and got married. One son Donald divorced his wife in Ohio and moved to Texas where he remarried and remained the rest of his life.

Leo served in Panama during WWI.
