The son of George & Susannah (Fetterhoff) Enders, in 1860 he was a laborer living with and/or working for farmer John Hoffman in Jefferson Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

A Civil War veteran, he served two terms of service:

  1. Drafted by Pennsylvania at the stated age of twenty-three in Dauphin County October 30, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg November 2 as a private with Co. A, 172nd Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company August 1, 1863. His brother Joseph S. Enders served in the same company.
  2. Enlisted at the stated age of twenty-six in Harrisburg February 23, 1865, mustered into federal service there February 28 as a private with Co. H in the one-year organization of the 192nd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company August 24, 1865. His pension index claims he held the rank of corporal, but he is in the company register as a private. His brother William Henry served in the same company.

He married Mary Ann Lentz on March 8, 1866, in unincorporated Enders and fathered the children you see linked below. On January 28, 1892, he applied for a disability pension and received it. He died in Enders from"cirrhosis of liver." His obituary in the Evening News cites him as Enders' last Civil War veteran, an unverified but plausible assertion given his advanced years and residence in a small village.

On May 31, 1921, Mary Ann applied for a widow's pension and received it.
