Max Christel, 90, of Manitowoc Health Care Center, Manitowoc, died
Sunday evening, December 28, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at Christianson and Deja
Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at St. Gregory Catholic Church, Manitowoc
(sic). The Rev. Lester Groeschl will officiate and burial will be in the church
cemetery.
Mr. Christel was born Aug. 25, 1890, in the Town of Eaton, son of the late
Wendel and Christine Kaiser Christel. He attended St. Gregory School and
married Anna Schema June 1, 1915, at St. Nazianz. They farmed in the Town
of Eaton until retirement in 1950. After that Mr. Christel kept active as a beekeeper
until 1956. He was a member of the Area Trapper's Association and a former
member of Manitowoc County Beekeeker's Association.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Reyneldis and Ray Schuler
of Manitowoc, Anastasia and Leroy Wiegand of Cleveland and Coletta and
Roman Salm of Sheboygan; a daughter-in-law, Marion Christel of Route 1,
Kiel; a sister and brother-in-law, Christina and William Rappel of St. Nazianz;
13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. His wife, a son, Lambert, and
four brothers preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Christianson-Deja Funeral Home, St. Nazianz, 4 p.m. to
9 p.m. Tuesday, where a parish prayer service will be at 8 p.m.

Christel, Max Wendel (Aug. 25, 1890-Dec. 28, 1980 –husband of Anna Schema [married June 1, 1915 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton] –son of Wendel Christel and Christina Kaiser –born Town of Eaton –farmer in Town of Eaton –on Oct. 18, 1916 purchased from his father the 80 acre farm at 19215 Newton Road in Section 35, Town of Eaton –on Dec. 7, 1950 sold this farm to his son Lambert Christel –was a beekeeper until 1956 –on Nov. 30, 1951 purchased the vacant lot at 303 West Main Street in St. Nazianz and had a house built –Anna lived here until her death in 1957 –Max continued to live here until selling on Aug. 24, 1972 –from Nov. 8, 1924 to Dec. 7, 1950 owned 5 acres of cedar swamp in the E1/2 of the NE1/4 of Section 29, Town of Eaton –died from "cardiac arrhythmia –hospitalized for fractured right hip –slipped and fell on floor") –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 4, Row 6, Lot 19] [marriage record Manitowoc 12-25] [death record Manitowoc 81-579]
