A Virtual Cemetery created by Muriel Butler

2/26 Members who joined other Forces, Units or Battalions

Suffering from the effects of the depression and unable to find jobs, many Australian men joined the Army during the early 1940's for two main reasons.Firstly, they were assured of a regular income, which was especially important when there was family involved and secondly, although only slight, there was the fear of a Japanese invasion of Australia. Some men joined the services, then found that the life was not really what they wanted. Some transferred to other branches of the services, whilst others, searching for something they found lacking in the service they originally joined, applied for transfers to various other Battalions/Units/Divisions.These men were originally members of the 2/26 Infantry Battalion.
