Agnes M. Hanke

Agnes M. Hanke, 73 of 22418 Rockville Road , Kiel, passed away on March 2, 2002 at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee.

She was born Jan. 5, 1929, in the town of New Holstein, daughter of the late Edwin and Alvina Mertens Schmitz, New Holstein and graduated from New Holstein High School.

On Sept. 2, 1953, she married Melvin Hanke at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein. Agnes was employed at Lawn-Boy in Plymouth before retiring.
She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel and the Christian Womens Society. She also was an active member of the Kiel V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 6707.
For many years she enjoyed playing sheepshead with her card club. In her retirement she volunteered for local organizations and loved traveling around the country.

Her gentle energetic spirit will be missed by her family, which includes the following survivors; her husband, Melvin, a resident of Calumet Homestead, New Holstein; her children, Joanie Hanke and husband James Stacy, Olympia, Wash., Diane Grogan and her husband, James, Reno, Nev., Dan Hanke and his wife, Mary, Bartlett, Ill. Paula Hanke-Boccio and husband,Frank, Tillison, N.Y.; three granddaughters, Taylor, Alaina and Leah who will miss their Gram dearly. She also is survived by four sisters, Frances (Willard) Ninmer, New Holstein, Margaret (Carl) Gebhart, Chilton, Genrose (Greg) Schwarz, New Holstein and Helen Reinl, New Holstein and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Marion Schmitz.

Many neighbors and friends will miss seeing Aggie walk along Rockville Road.

Friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, Kiel on Tuesday, March 5, 2002 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. when brief family rites will be held. The funeral mass will take place on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel.
Entombment will follow at Knollwood Mausoleum, Manitowoc.
A memorial has been established in her name.
