William Jacob Rothrock was the sixth of ten known children of Jesse B. Rothrock (1818-1893) and Louisa (went by Lucy) Jane Waisner Rothrock (1821-1860), who married 23 Mar 1841 at Davidson County, North Carolina. After Lucy died, Jesse remarried to the widow Sarah Ann Wilson Pearson (1832-1907) on 06 Jun 1861 at Bartholomew County, Indiana and had an additional four known children.
William first married to Matilda Lamb (1839-c1880-1883) on 13 May 1874 at Effingham County, Illinois. William and Matilda were the parents of two known children, namely:
1. Lillie May Rothrock Merick Butler Vest (1876-1956)
2. Carl K. Rothrock (1878-1958)
After Matilda died, William remarried to the widow, Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Auldridge Chandler (1852-1919) on 27 Sep 1883 at Piatt County, Illinois. William and Sarah were the parents of six (?) known children, namely:
3. Fannie Rothrock Hughes (1884-???)
4. Ida Alice Rothrock Lowman (1888-1967)
5. Hazel Rothrock (1891-???)
6. Edith Rothrock (???-???)
7. Harry Rothrock (???-???)
8. Bertha Rothrock (???-???)
In 1900 William, Sarah (mother of six, four living), Fannie, Ida and Hazel were living at Pipe Creek Township, Madison County, Indiana. The last three children probably died young, was Sarah their mother? Did Sarah have a child by her first marriage to Mr. Chandler?
