William was the 3rd of 5 children of Gustav Charles & Maria Anna (Schimmer) Hanneman. Gustav was born in Danzig, Prussia and Maria in Ohio.

William's siblings were:

1. Christian A, 1896-1969; m. Marie Krause, 3 ch
2. Othilia, 1898-1998, m. Lester Heck, 1 son
3. Evelyn M, 1903-1977, m. Joseph Dugall, 4 ch
4. Charles, 1906-1954, m. Lorraine Broebecker, 2 ch

William grew up on the east side of Detroit, Michigan where the Hannemans had lived since their 1869 arrival from Danzig.

In his earlier years William worked in the auto industry on various jobs as a machine operator. By 1940 William was working for the U.S. Post office. He was involved with setting up airmail service at Detroit's Metro Airport.

In 1927 William married his first wife Roma H. Jacobs. It was her third marriage. The couple did not have any children. After 44 years of marriage his wife Roma died in 1971.

William's 2d wife was Jessie Mae McLain, (a 2d marriage for Jessie too). William and Jessie were long time friends. They knew one another for decades before their 1st spouses died and their subsequent marriage.

After William and Jessie married they moved to El Paso, sometime between 1972-1987, to be near Jessie's daughter Lois Kaip.

Note, while William's obit shows he had children, they were his step-children from his 2nd marriage to Jessie.
