Fire Victim
Identified
MOORESVILLE - The victim of an early morning house fire Wednesday has been positively identified as John William Moose, 74.
The retired Mooresville Mill employee lived alone in the small frame dwelling that was razed at 225 Nesbit St. When firemen arrived at the scene about 4 a.m. Wednesday, the house was engulfed in flames, and it was not until after the fire was extinguished that the body was found in the house.
Dr. A. M. Henderson ordered the badly burned body sent to Chapel Hill for positive identification.
The fire is believed to have started from a defective chimney in the house owned by L. P. Young, Jr.
An Iredell County native, Mr. Moose was born Feb. 27, 1896. He was a son of the late John Andrew and Margaret Eades Moose. He served with the Old Hickory Division in France during World War I.
His wife, Mrs. Thinnie Lee Moose, died in 1961.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Freeze and Mrs. Lloyd Moore of Mooresville; three sons, James Oscar Moose of Ostrander, Wash., Bobby Moose of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Donald B. Moose of Charlotte; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangement are incomplete at the Cavin Funeral Home in Mooresville.
