Fannie Ethel Craig Allison, 88, of Nitro departed this life on Sept. 28, 2005, at her home after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ethel Mae; a son, Marvin Ray; her parents, E.C. and Linnie Higginbotham Craig; four brothers, Leonard, Clayton, Wilkerson and Brady; and one sister, Genevieve Craig Williams.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Audra Herchell; three sons, Clayton (Sharon) of Greenville, S.C., Ernest (Murlena) of Nitro, Glendon (Judy) of Cookeville, Tenn.; a daughter, Karen (Allen) Plank of West Liberty, Ohio; two stepsons, Don (Juanita) Vaughan of Plant City, Fla., and Ron (Edna) Vaughan of Phelps, Ky.; a special granddaughter, Teresa Stover of Nitro, who was her caregiver for many years; a sister, Belva Lacy of St. Albans; 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Her life can be characterized as a life of serving and giving. A better wife, mother or grandmother will never be found. She retired from Thomas Memorial Hospital after 28 years of service as an LPN and gave unselfishly to her family, friends and community. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Nitro Church of God. Interment will be in Cunningham Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Donations may be made in her memory to HospiceCare. Cooke Funeral Home, Nitro, is in charge of arrangements.
