THE DEATH OF A MOTHER
Mrs. Emma Mary Dorothea Stahlberg Schlemmer, the wife of August Schlemmer, died last Tuesday morning, July 2, at 5 o'clock, from the results of a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. Schlemmer had been afflicted with rheumatism and with considerable illness during the past several years. In April she sustained a stroke of paralysis which affected her right side, but after a two weeks' illness, she was able to be about again. A second stroke followed on the 28th of June, which left her unable to speak, and she grew gradually worse until she quietly passed into the other world.
Mrs. Schlemmer was the mother of 12 children, of whom 11 are living, and all of these it is hoped and expected will be present at the funeral, which will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock, at the family home and at 11:30 o'clock at St. Mathew's Lutheran church. She is also survived by 23 grand-children, her husband and one brother, John Stahlberg, of Scotch Grove.
The decedent was born in Germany, November 5, 1861. She was baptized the same year in the Lutheran church and came to America in 1882. She was married to August Schlemmer April 24, 1882. They resided two years in Clinton county, coming to Jones county in 1885. For 15 years they lived in Richland and Scotch Grove townships, and in Lovell township two years. They had resided in Monticello for 10 years; the husband being known as an employee at Lang's mill. Mrs. Schlemmer was aged 56 years, 6 months and 25 days.
All honor to the mother of twelve children. What cares she had, but how well were they compensated in the love of so many. No matter what a mother's infirmities may be they are eased by the interest she takes in her children's activities. And what a satisfaction it is in the hour of extremity when earthly ties are to be broken, to be blessed by so many children.
