SUDDEN DEATH IS SHOCK TO FRIENDS
MRS FRITZ HOCHMUTH PASSED AWAY UNEXPECTEDLY SAT. MORNING
Our community was shocked New Year's morning when it became known that Mrs. Fritz Hochmuth had died suddenly at her home at 609 E. Pennsylvania street at 6:30 o'clock that day. Mrs. Hochmuth had not been ill before 3 o'clock that morning when a physician was summoned. Death ensued a few hours later and was due to a blood clot in the heart.
Mrs. Hochmuth whose maiden name was Schott was born 12 Jan 1863 in Cainsdorf, Germany, hence attaining an age of 63 years, 11 months and 19 days. She spent her youth in her native land, where in April 1882, she was united in marriage with Oscar Flemming. Four years later the young couple came to America, settling in Mt. Olive, where the husband and father lost his life in a mine accident in November 1898. Ten children were born of this union of whom 4 preceded the mother in death. On 6 Oct 1906, the subject of this sketch was united in marriage with Fritz Hochmuth of Staunton and has been a resident of this city since that time. She was the mother of 1 daughter by this marriage.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the home, followed by services at the St. Paul's church at 2 o'clock, Rev. Paul E. Schoppe officiating. Interment was at the Staunton City cemetery.
Those left to cherish her memory are: The husband, Fritz Hochmuth; 4 daughters, Mrs. Paula Schmidt of Staunton, Mrs. Anna Stille of Detroit, Mich., Miss Hilda Hochmuth of Staunton; 3 sons, William, Ed, and Henry Flemming, all of Staunton; 2 step-daughters, Mrs. Linda Jenne and Mrs. Minnie Fowler, both of St. Louis; 2 step-sons, Ernest and Paul Hochmuth, both of Staunton; 16 grandchildren; 2 nieces and 1 nephew in America and 4 brothers and 1 sister in Germany.
Mrs. Hochmuth was secretary of the Sewing Circle and a member of the Ladies' Aid Society of the St. Paul's church and an active worker in that congregation. No more eloquent tribute to the high esteem in which she was held by all who knew her can be offered than the fact that her funeral was one of the largest ever conducted in Staunton, the capacity of the church being taxed to the utmost to accommodate all who came to pay her the last honor.
In her death her family lost a kind and considerate wife and mother and our community one of its truly worthwhile women.
