Kiowa, Kansas
Roy Baldwin Brannan was born on May 3, 1890 in Kiowa and died on February 22, 1919 in France of pneumonia while with his Army company. He left Kiowa on April 1, 1918 with a contingent of recruits and was a member of Company 'C', 353rd Infantry of the 89th Division which sailed for France about the middle of May. He was a good soldier and was engaged in several big battles in Chatteau-Thierry and Argonne Forest, but fortunately was not seriously wounded. He had expected to sail for the United States with his company about June 1 and was looking forward to the time he could be home. He is survived by his mother, Lucy Tubbs of Kiowa; three sisters, Birdie Morris and Lucy Strohmeier, both of Capron, Oklahoma, and Annie Van Gundy of Kiowa; and one brother, George Brannan, who is with the 35th Division of the A.E.F. in France. The two brothers were only a short distance from each other, but were unable to secure furloughs, that they might visit each other. Consequently, they had not met since before entering the service.
