His obituary found in The State 19 September 1968: Alexander Talley Calvo, 78, a retired employee of the Standard Savings and Loan Association, legal department, died Wednesday in a Houston, Tex. hospital. He was born in Columbia, was a member of the Ascension Lutheran Church, a veteran of World War I and a member of American Legion Post 6. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Annie Ballentine Calvo; a son, Arthur Talley Calvo of Columbia and a brother, Lamar Calvo of Washington, D. C. Funeral plans will be announced. Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais St. Chapel is in charge.

Found in The State 21 September 1968: Funeral services for Alexander Talley Calvo will he held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Ascension Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Frank Lyerly, the Rev. Carl W. Kinard, D. D., and the Rev. Harman W. Cauble. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Mr. Calvo was the son of the publisher of the Columbia Register, a now-defunct morning newspaper published in Columbia from after the Civil War to the 1890's. Pallbearers will be W. F. Smith, Porter Kinard, Monchton Hook, George Lee, Lurens Mills and John B. Butler, Jr. The Ascension Lutheran Church is suggested to those desiring to send memorials.
