John Rollins Gage II was born 1916 in Port Gibson. His Father was James Vertner Gage .His mother Leah Lenora Nicholson from hamilton Tx. they lived at La Cache plantation.Where Vertner raised cotton and Cattle.He was named for his great Uncle John Rollins Gage I 1848-1918. The name Rollins being from Uncle Amariah Rollins. John graduated in 1936 along with Brother Nick and sister Eloise..He got a scholarship to play football at Rice Institute. . After he moved to Houston Texas he got a job at HL&P ,from Uncle Sam Bertron.Pres.He and Eloise lived at same boarding house . He and Alice Cary Foulks , a 2nd cousin fell in love and married .when WWII came along he went into the army .fighting at Normandy on D DAY. As did his brother Nick.but both made it through. He and Alice(Lallie) adopted 2 children John Rollins III and Elizabeth Anne (Betty Ann)Gage . He worked at HL&P as line man (then after breaking both his heels falling from a pole) he became a supervisor 43 years. after retirement they moved back to Port Gibson living at Glensade subd. a few doors from his brother Nicks home .John died 1993 from complications of surgery . He & Lallie were married 51 years .He was active in the Presbyterian church. he had 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed .Rest in peace Dear sweet Uncle John.
