Howell Nicholson (Nick )Gage was the 3rd son Of James Vertner Gage & Leah Nicholson Gage . He was named after his maternal grandfather Malachi Howell Nicholson.He Had 2 older brothers James Douglas (Doug) & John Rollins II Gage ,& also had 2 little sisters Eloise Lena Gage and Clare Gage (who died very young) . His mother Leah died 1926 ,and his Dad raised the 4 young children with help of a Nanny named "Mammy". she was like a mother to the children . His Dad Vertner married (2nd )in 1928 to Gladys Sandifer. Nick Married Julia Elizabeth ( Betty )Payne in 1942. Served in D Day ,along with his brother John. They came back to great fanfare in 1945 Port Gibson Mississippi.to a great end of WWII celebration.Nick & Betty had 3 children ,Howell Nicholson. (Hal ) Gage ,Leah Elizabeth (Libba), and Richard Vertner (Dick) Gage. He worked many years at Port Gibson National Bank. Owned by his family since 1918..He passed in 1974 from lung cancer.He is greatly missed .Rest in peace Nick.
