Leanora Nicholson was born to Malachi Nicholson and Elizabeth Catherine "Cassie" Boone, the youngest of 11 children, 7 girls & 4 boys (including 2 sets of twins). She married James Vertner Gage in 1912 in Reeves County, Texas. Their first child, James Douglass, was born in Pecos, Texas. They moved back to Vertner's home and bought a cotton and cattle plantation called "La Cache" just outside of Port Gibson, Mississippi. They had 3 more children: Howell Nicholson, John Rollins II, Lena Eloise and a newborn who died named Clare Gage. Leah died of breast cancer in 1926. Her sister Mary Eloise came from Texas to take care of her as she was dying and cared for the children, giving up her own happiness in her love for her niece & nephews. Finally, when Vertner remarried she went home and married Judge John Weatherford Parker. Leah, as Leanora liked to be called, was a beautiful woman and has 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Three were named after her.including the writer of this memorial
