HOLLANDALE — Lester Willborn, age 70, of Hollandale, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 1994 at Memorial Hospital of Iowa County in Dodgeville, Wisconsin following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Mineral Point, Wisconsin on December 23, 1923, the son of Ernest and Paulina (Sturzengger) Willborn. He graduated from Argyle High School in 1941. On July 20, 1949, he married Bertha Bruehlman at the Argyle Lutheran Church. He lived and made cheese in the Adamsville and Moscow Center Cheese factories and also in the Hollandale area from 1952 until 1977. He then worked for Zim’s Cheese and later the Mid-America Cheese Corp., retiring in 1993.

He is survived by his wife at home; a son, Steven (Elizabeth) Willborn, of Lincoln, Nebraska; two daughters, Karen (Neil) Bogenschneider, of Spring Green, and Pamela (James) Colson, of Blanchardville; five brothers, Ernest Willborn, of Madison, Rudy Willborn, of Darlington, William (Grace) Willborn, of BlanchardVille, Herman Willborn, of Argyle, John (Bobbi) Willborn, of Daleyville; five sisters, Hulda (Grant) Disrud, of Platteville, Alice Gerber, of Platteville, Lena (Bruce) Ligman, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Patty Jacobson, of Monroe, Emma Winger, of Argyle, and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Richard Willborn in 1994 (1993). He was a member of the VFW Post #5274 of Platteville, Wisconsin. Lester was a veteran World War II, where he served in the Navy from 1942 until 1946. Lester won several cheesemaking awards, some of which include a 2nd place in the World’s National Cheese contest in 1972, and the Governor’s Sweepstakes Award for Wheel Swiss at the Wisconsin State Fair in 1968.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 1994 at 11:00 a.m. at the ERICKSON FUNERAL HOME in Argyle with Pastor David Goodfellow of the Plymouth Congregational Church of Dodgeville, officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Argyle, where Military Graveside Rites to be accorded by the Argyle American Legion Post #251. Friends may call on Tuesday, July 19, 1994 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the ERICKSON FUNERAL HOME in Argyle.
