William Keith, 60, Glouster, was killed this morning when he was crushed between two motors at Mine 255 on Bailey Run.
Mr. Keith, president of the Glouster village council, was a member of a small maintenance crew working in the mine, according to a spokesman at the mine operation.
The spokesman said details of the accident were not complete, and mine inspectors were making an investigation.
According to early reports, Mr. Keith, a track bonder, had stopped the motor he was operating and was bending over the track when another motor approached and he was caught between the two.
The mine was not in operation and only the maintenance crew was working, the spokesman explained.
Mr. Keith had been a member of the Glouster village council for six years and was named president this year. He had been active in the Nazarene Church, although he was a member of the Church of Christ.
Mr. Keith is survived by his wife, Opal Carpenter Keith, and 12 children, Chester, superintendent of light for Glouster village; Mary Helen, Richard, Jack, Billy, Denny, and Larry, all of Glouster; Mrs. Bertine Stevens, of Birmingham, AL; Mrs. Anne LeMoine, of Glouster; Mrs. Betty Reese, of Columbus; Mrs. Alice Noon, of Caldwell; and Mrs. Connie Stahl, of Glouster. Arrangements are being made by the Jagers Funeral Home.
