Veteran Bricklayer Dies Monday Evening at the Age of 75-Funeral Conducted Yesterday

August Manecke, veteran bricklayer, and resident of Morton the past 36 years, died suddenly at 7:15 Monday evening of heat prostration. He was 75 years.
The funeral was conducted Wednesday morning by Rev. M. J. Wehausen of the Lutheran church. Services were held at the home at 9 a.m. and from the church at 9:30. Burial was in the Morton cemetery.
He is survived by seven children; Herman of Alpha, Ill., Hattie (Mrs. Nick Hipp) of Arlington, Nieta (Mrs. Herman Minikus) of Benson, Minn., Irma (Mrs. Erwin Scheuneman) of Chask, Minn., Henry and Helmuth of Morton, and Elmer of Britton, S.D. An aged sister, Mrs. August Wendt of town Wellington also survives him.
August Manecke was born February 10, 1861, at Westphalen, Germany. As a lad of 18, he arrived in America in 1879, making his home at New Ulm, Minn. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Fort Ridgely township and was united in marriage with Miss Lena Krueger in 1885.
In 1900 the family moved to Morton which has been their home since. Mrs. August Manecke died April 21, 1934. Of their children, seven survive and were present at the funeral Wednesday morning.
Mr. Manecke was a bricklayer and worked at this trade during most of his life. For a number of years he was employed at the local brick yard where he acted as foreman for a considerable time.
Pallbearers were John Orth, Fred Pfeiffer, Henry Flink, J. T. Gooderum, Joe Carruth and Charles Ewert.
