Mrs. Aug. Wendt Passes Away
-------
Resident Here for 52 Years Succumbs to Ills of Old Age at Farm Home in Wellington
-------
Mrs. Aug. Wendt, whose husband passed away in March a year ago, passed away very peacefully on Friday night at 11:45, at the age of 73 years, 7 months, 26 days. While she had not been in robust health for a number of years, she had only been in bed for two days before her death.

Funeral services were held for this dear pioneer mother on Tuesday, September 7, at 1:30 p.m. from the farm home, at 2:00 from the Lutheran church in Wellington. Rev. E. G. Fritz had charge of the services, and the Ladies' Aid sang a favorite hymn for their beloved fellow member. She was laid to rest in the church cemetery, beside her husband.

The pall bearers were: Reinhart Kiecker, Anton Kiecker, Robert Kiecker, Otto J. Kiecker, Carl Hillman and Frank Borth.

Flower girls were the Misses Edna and Orpha Bleick, Evelyn Hamann and Mrs. Henry Walker.

Many of her friends and relatives gave contributions to the extension building fund of the church as a memorial to this faithful Christian.

Mrs. Wendt, born Fredericka Elisa Sophia Manecke, first saw the light of day on January 8, 1864, at Latbergen, Westphalen, Germany. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in infancy. Her mother died when Fredericke was six years old.

Two years later, in 1872, the father came to America with his family, and settled in New Ulm, where two of his sons had already established their home. In 1878 Fredericke was confirmed by Rev. G. Reim in New Ulm in the Lutheran faith.

She lived in New Ulm until November 25, 1885, when she became the bride of August Wendt. He took her to his farm home in Wellington where she continued to live until her death. A son, Otto, has been managing the farm for some years. In 1935 the Wendts celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary, amid great rejoicing.

Five children are left to mourn the passing of a kind and loving mother. They are, Emma (Mrs. Henry Hamann) of New Ulm, Emil, of Moltke, Lucy (Mrs. Walter Bleick) of New Ulm, Clara (Mrs. Robert Bleick) of West Newton, and Otto, on the Wellington home farm. There are also 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Among those from a distance to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hamann and daughter, Evelyn, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bleick, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Walker, Jr., Mrs. Henry Walker, Sr., Mrs. Emil Hamann, Mrs. Fred Wellnes, Mrs. Chas. Daur and son, Clarence, all of New Ulm; Mrs. Nick Hipp and Mrs. Marie Haggermiller and little daughter, of Arlington; Emil Peller, of Belle Plaine; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Manecke, of Sanborn; Mrs. Henry Paffrath, of Springfield; Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Buerkle and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Buerkle Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Myer and son, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bleick, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pagel, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bleick and family, Fred Keske, all of Gibbon; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kamrath and family, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Kamrath, of Hector.
