TWO WELL-KNOWN MEN PASS AWAY
----------------------------
William Manecke of Morton and J. D. Dickmeier Pass to Their Reward
----------------------------
The death of William Manecke, a resident of Morton for almost twenty-five years, on Monday of last week cast a shadow of gloom over this vicinity. A man well-known had passed to his reward.

William Manecke was born on June 24, 1844 at Pusson, Germany. In 1866 he came to America and settled at Cincinnati. Sophia Weddendorf became his wife on February 16, 1868. This family moved to New Ulm in 1870 and shortly afterwards moved to a homestead farm in Wellington, 8 miles north of Fairfax. They became residents of Morton in 1899 where Mr. Manecke learned to be a first class brick maker besides being a good farmer. Death came on March 19 after an attack of grippe which this aged gentleman could not live through.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Manecke celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on February 16, 1918.

Deceased leaves to mourn his leaving, his wife; a brother August Manecke of Morton; a sister, Mrs. August Wendt of Wellington; and the following children: Mrs. Henry Paffrath of Springfield, Wm. Manecke of Bemidji, John and Fred Manecke of Sanborn, and Mrs. Tom McCarthy of Morton. A son, Henry, passed away in 1894 at the age of twenty-two.

Funeral services were held at the German Lutheran church on Thursday afternoon, Rev. Sauer officiating.

The pall bearers were: John Orth, Aug. Riegge, Carl Wolter, Ed Homeier, Henry Homeier and Fred Pfeiffer.

Mr. Manecke's absence will be greatly felt by his loved ones and his many friends.
