Ulys S. Grant, age 80, of Oliver Springs, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Summit View of Lake City.

Ulys was born March 5, 1933, in Knoxville, Tenn., to the late Arthur Dewey and Edna Mann Grant. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. Ulys was a minister of the Baptist faith, played the guitar, was an avid reader, loved reading the Bible, spending time with his family, and watching football and basketball, which he had played in high school.

In addition to his parents, Ulys was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Buddy Grant and John Calvin Grant; brother-in-law, the Rev. Willie Aiken; sister-in-law, Nancy Grant; and the mother of his children, Mieko Brown.

He is survived by sons, Arthur Grant of Oliver Springs, John Grant and his wife, Connie, of Franklin, Tenn., and Michael Grant of Alpharetta, Ga.; brother, Glen Grant of Oak Ridge; sister, Lillie Aiken of Oak Ridge; and by eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends.

A graveside service was held Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Knoxville with the Rev. Tommy Aiken officiating.
