BIO: Moses was mentioned in his son's biography in Hardesty's Cyclopedia of WV p. 100 "He helped rear the first cabins, fell the first trees, and bring this now fertile county into cultivation, sharing with those who ate their bread without having mills to grind the grain.".

BIO: Per our family history Moses Beckett recounted to his descendants that when his father
He and a brother rode in a long sack thrown over the back of the horse. Their heads were high enough so that they could talk to each other. His granddau. Rebecca Braley wrote a family history in 1945 called "A little History of the Beckett Family". She says Moses had 45 grandchildren and 160 great grandchildren (31 and 135 from 1st marriage and 14 and 25 from 2nd marriage). My mother Rose Christou has the original manuscripts which she has given to me.She recieved them from her father who got them from his cousin A. Grant. Copies have been placed at the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore.

DEATH: His date of death is given in his father's family bible, his tombstone, and also in the History of Beckett Family by his dau. Rebecca Braley ca 1945. No death certificate found in Cabell Co Courthouse per Clerk.

WILL: Moses Beckett names wife Mary to have all property, after her death equally divided between all children: dau Louisa to have silver spoons; dau Jennie Ann to have Bible she now holds; son Josiah to have rifle gun and book "Life of John Bunyan" and "Pilgrim's Progress"; dau Susan Josephine to have book "Life of Christ" and her school books; son William to have pictorial "Life of Andrew Jackson" and his school books and kit of shoe tools. exec. Charles W. Beckett (see Lambert Notes MS 76 box 4 nbk 19 at Marshall Univ. since original will lost). Charles made executor, Emsley made adm. for final sale when Mary died in 1902. WB 1 p 4 date May 30 1871 probate Mar 19 1877 Cabell Co.
