James was married twice. 1st Wife: Matilda Porter and 2nd wife: Sarah Paul.
Known children: William Beckett, Margaret Ann Beckett Brown, Virginia Beckett Smith, Jane Beckett Smith, America E Beckett Smith, Tabitha Beckett Cox, Amelia Beckett Paul.

PATENT: James Becket 100 acres of land by warrants of 50 acres situate in Cabell Co on Big Fudges Creek. Jul 28 1836.

DEED: John Maxwell and others sell to James Beckett 100 acres on Trace Creek of Guyandotte and Toms Creek DB 5 p 502 in 1834.

DEED: James Beckett and Matilda (x) to George Hughart 100 acres on Trace Creek and Toms Creek for $118.75 dated Feb 25, 1839 recorded Mar 8 1839. 7-322.

DEED: James Beckett and Matilda (x) to William Beckett 35 acres on Trace Creek for $10 dated and recorded Mar 8 1839 7-366.

Personal Family History written by his daughter Margaret Brown about 1873 sent to me by Brownie Mortlock mentions her ancestors back to James Beckett and William Porter. Margaret mentions their hard trip to Platte Co, Missouri where her mother and younger sister died. She stayed with her grandparents when her father returned to Virginia. He remarried and the step-mother was mean. She was beaten and stayed with different cousins.

He is variously said to have a middle initial of A or T but I have not found any used in primary documents.
