Julia McBride is Dead at 75

Funeral services for Miss Julia McBride, 75, a lifelong resident of Palo Alto county, who was found dead in a chair in her room at the Mrs. John Galleger home last Friday afternoon, were held at Assumption church at 9:30 Monday morning. The Very Rev. W;F. Mason, pastor, and the Rev. James Cain, assistant, conducted the final rites.

Burial was in St. John's cemetery with the Foy
Funeral home in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers were James Morrissey, L.C. Phillips, R.J. Carney, Francis Jackman, Joseph McTigue and Vincent Callhan.

Born in Highland township on Sept. 15, 1875, Julia was the daughter of the late James and Ann Donnelly McBride, a well known and respected pioneer couple. She grew to young womanhood in this vicinity and when her brothers and sisters left Emmetsburg to establish their own homes or work elsewhere, she remained in the parental home to care for Mr. and Mrs. McBride.

After her parents'deaths, she made her home with her brother, Patrick. When his health failed, she cared for him until his death five years ago.

She was a faithful member of the Catholic church, attending regular and special services. Although she had been in failing health for some time, she was able to be up and about. The Sunday before her death, she attended mass as usual. Friday a priest who was visiting relatives nearby, was summoned, and he gave her the last rites of the church. Death was attributed to natural causes. A quiet woman, who was small of stature, Miss McBride was a familiar sight on the streets of Emmetsburg. She was always friendly and courteous, and her death will be regretted by many in this vicinity.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ella Goddard of Streator, Ill., who is nearly 80 years of age and was unable to attend the final rites because of poor health. Also surviving are five nieces, Mrs. A.J. Gappa, Mrs. P.L. Godden, Emmetsburg; Mrs. Thomas Goeders, Pasadena, Cal.;Mrs. F.O. Glanz, Maywood, Cal.; and Miss Mildred Goddard, Houston, Texas; and five nephews, Fred Goddard, Laurens; Glen and Orville Goddard, Emmetsburg; Jess and Tom Goddard, Chicago, Ill. Another sister, Mrs. Anna Goddard, died a little over a month ago.
