Adeline Estella Califf Monnette

Estella Adeline Monnette, beloved wife of Irvine Monnette, departed this life on October 18, 1915. She was the daughter of Gilbert and Margaret (Tetrow) Califf, and born near the town of Macy in Miami County, Illinois. The departed came to Colorado to marry Augustus Eddy Monnette, and instead married his son Irvine. Previously married, she was the mother of three children, Mrs. J.F. Sutliff of Los Angeles, Gilbert Swatzlander of Peetz, Colorado, and Dr. Charles A. Swartzlander of Sidney, Nebraska. Following her death, the body was removed to Sidney, Nebraska, for internment in Greenwood Cemetery. At the time of her death she was fifty years and three months old. Local papers recorded her death, and the events leading up to it. She took her own life by drowning in the ranch reservoir, afraid that her husband would be killed during a skirmish over stolen cattle.
