FERN L. STRAUF, LIFELONG RESIDENT, DIES

Mrs. Fern L. Strauf, 73, of 8 Albany St. Ext., Homer, died this morning in Cortland Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 13, 1905 in Homer, the daughter of Fred and Ella Chapman Hicks, and had been an area resident all her life. She had been employed at Smith-Corona for 15 years before retirement. She was the widow of Elmer Strauf, who died in 1959. Surviving are five sons, Gerald E. of Homer, Glenn L. of Lansing, Lewis A. of Union Valley, Lawrence E. and John E. Strauf, both of Cortland; one daughter, Mrs. William (Dorothy) Epp of Cortland; one brother, Harold Hicks of Cortland; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Katherine) Aldrich and Mrs. Lucy Fitzgerald, both of Homer; 27 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Briggs Memorial Home, Homer, with the Rev. Max T. Wiant, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Homer, officiating. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
