JOHN BECKER
(1871 - 1947)

John Becker, 76, of 2013 Hamilton street, retired west side merchant, died Sunday night at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Becker home and at 9 o'clock at the St. Mary's Catholic church, the Rev. John Landowski officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

Born in German Poland in 1871, he came to Manitowoc with his parents in 1881 and in 1894 married Miss Mary Ziarnik. He engaged in the grocery and tavern business at 2001 Hamilton street, and later his sons became associated with him. In 1944 Mr. and Mrs. Becker observed their golden wedding anniversary. The grocery store is now operated by his son-in-law, Francis Tadych. Mr. Becker was a member of the Holy Name society and the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin.

Survivors are his wife; eight daughters, Mrs. Stanley Woytal, Mrs. Francis Tadych, Mrs. Walter Osieczanek, Mrs. Walter Erickson, Mrs. Marie Denk, Mrs. John Zagrodnik, Mrs. Felix Frozena and Mrs. Leo Novak all of this city; two sons, Anton and Ervin of this city; sister, Mrs. Veronica Pekulik of this city; 24 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The body will be moved to the home this evening from the Shimek and Schwartz funeral home. The rosary will be recited by the Holy Name society at the home at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
