William suffered from tuberculosis. He never married. His obituary states he was buried in West Sweden with his Great-Aunt and Great-Uncle Charlotte Mumford Sweetman and Peter Sweetman. William was a Physician, but never practiced due to his frail health.

William, the eldest son of Mrs
Jane Porter, died at his home Last
Friday night after a lingering illness
with tuberculosis. He had spent two
winters in California but came home
last spring and was poorly all summer,
five weeks ago he was taken
worse and with his brother Lyman
went to the Adirondacks; but instead
of getting better gradually failed, and
came home last Tuesday unconscious
and remained in that condition until
the last. He was 29 years of age and
nearly all his life was spent in this vicinity
where he had many friends. He
leaves his mother, six sisters and four
brothers The funeral was held at the
church; Sunday at 2 p. m. Rev. Seth
Cook officiated. Burial at West
Sweden.
