Death on Saturday claimed one of the pioneer residents of the city and county, in the person of Mrs. Henry Long. Her demise occurred at the home of Mrs. George Maples, a daughter. Her death has been attributed to old age. She had been ill 18 months previous to her death.
Her maiden name was Delphine Griffin and she was born at Peshtigo (**then Brown County, Wisconsin)on March 19, 1846.
On March 21, 1862 she was united in marriage to Henry Long. The couple numbered among the pioneers that developed fine farms in the Town of Sevastopol, spending 45 years of their lives in active farming in that town. Her husband preceded her to the grave two years ago, following which Mrs. Long's health has been on the decline.
Mrs. Long was the mother of a large family of children, who number among prominent and well-known residents.
The surviving children are John of Iron Mountain, Michigan; Walter of Green Bay; Everett of Battle Creek, Michigan; Mrs. Abe (Marie) Augsburger, Mrs. Jake (Amanda) Simons, Mrs. George (Lillian) Glass and Mrs. George (Nora) Maples; also Elmer and George Long of this city.
Other relatives are Otis Griffin, a brother.
Services were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the home of Mrs. George Maples. Rev. J.S. Ellis of the Methodist Church had charge of the service.
