Retired Lodi Teacher Dies At Age Of 88
Flora Blazer, 88, of 261 S. Mills St., daughter of two pioneer Lodi families, died Friday in a local hospital following a long illness. A former teacher, she has been credited with introducing some 1,500 students to reading during her career which lasted some 30 years. Born in Los Angeles, she was the daughter of Ira Clark Barron and Mary Mills Barron, and obtained her teaching certificate from Los Angeles Normal College (now UCLA). She taught school in Inglewood and then moved to Lodi where she taught during 1906 and 1907 when she moved to Berkeley and taught for 10 years. She returned to Lodi in 1920 and taught First Grade at Emerson School until her retirement in 1937. She was also known as a singer and a writer of children's stories. She was a member of Eastern Star, Lodi Women's Club, California Teacher's Association, both the State and National Retired Teacher's Association and St. John's Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Mable Barron, and a niece, Mr. . Bergantz, both of Lodi.
