Death of Mr. Donglas.
William Douglas, a resident of Concord, died at the Waterbury
asylum Dec. 24, and his body was brought here for burial.
William Douglas was born at Hartland, Jan. 23, 1827, the son of John
and Mehitable (Elliot) Douglas. He wasone of six children, none of
whom are living except a sister, Mrs. Freelove Mace, of Woodstock,
who will celebrate her 100th birthday Feb. 14.
His early life was spent in Hartland. He was married in February, 1851,
to Amanda M. Douglas. One child was born to them, Mrs. Maria A.
Bryer, of St. Johnsbury. After the death of his first wife he was married
Aug. 17, 1853, to Miss Hannah E. Stone at Lancaster, N. H.
Eleven children were born to them :
Albert L., who lives at St. Johnsbury; Charles H., deceased; Frank L. of
Cumberland, Wis.; William E. of Concord; Flora D. and Mary L. deceased;
Walter L. and Hubert L. of Concord; Herbert S. of Moose Jaw,
Saskatchewan; Blanche C. Currier and Miss Bertha of Concord.
Mr. Douglas was a respected citizen of Concord for 30 years. He was
a farmer and lived on the farm occupied now by his son, Walter L.
Douglas.
He was very energetic and thrifty until his health failed him
several years ago, when it was necessary to take him to Waterbury.
He is survived by his wife and nine children. Funeral services were
held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nancy Currier, Thursday,
at 10 a. m., Rev. M. H. Smith officiating. J. K. Hovey, Mrs. Miner
Carpenter and Mrs. Cora Bailey sang.
Those called here from away were Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Bryer and
son Roy, Miss Jennie Underwood, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Douglas and
Frank Reed, all of St. Johnsbury.
