With deep regret we have to announce that Mrs. Mary Beattie passed away on Wednesday at her residence, ' Sempstead,' Junee, at the ripe old age of 86.
For over 60 years she was a resident of the State, and nearly 40 years of her life were spent in the Wagga district, Her health had not been good for some years, but she had every care and attention from devoted relatives and nurses. Her intellect was bright to the last, and it was really wonderful the keen interest she evinced, not only in her own family affairs, but in all matters connected with the well-being of the State. Only a few days before her decease she conversed
with her son on politics.
She was the mother of I6 children, 3 of whom died in infancy. She reared 12 (6 sons and 6 daughters) without ever calling in the aid of a medical man. Her descendants number in all 92, 76 of whom are living
at the present time. Her late husband, Mr. Hugh Beattie, of Brooklyn, pre-deceased her some years ago. If he had lived 3 months longer they intended celebrating their golden wedding.
She was a good woman, and a devoted wife and mother, and although her charity began at home, it did not end there. She will long be remembered by many for her hospitality and kindly deeds. The funeral took place on Friday, at Junee, the interment being made in the Methodist portion of the Junee Cemetery. Besides a large number of relatives, sympathisers attended from Wagga, Junee, and surrounding districts. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. H. Burt, of the Methodist Church, of which Church the deceased lady was ever an ornament.
