Emmett R. Arnold, 54, Rte. 1, Janesville, prominent Shorthorn breeder, died early Tuesday morning in Mercy Hospital where he was admitted Monday evening. He had been in failing health several years.

Mr. Arnold, who lived on the homestead farm in Johnstown Township 27 years, was a former state president of Milking Shorthorn Association and also served on the state board two years. As a student in the class of 1927 at Janesville High School he won the state stock judging contest.

He was a member of Rock Prairie United Presbyterian Church and served on Rock Prairie School board several years.

Born in Rock County Dec. 21, 1908 he was the son of Frank and Thursie Brown Arnold. He married Coriene Haugen, Beloit, in Luther Valley July 3, 1935.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Richard Arnold, Rte. 1, Janesville; a daughter, Mrs. Priscilla Goodger, Milwaukee; three brothers, George and James, Rte. 1, Avalon, and Forrest, Rte. 1, Janesville; and two sisters, Mrs. Harold Crabtree, Clinton and Mrs. Kenneth Short, Janesville.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Rock Prairie Church, the Rev. Carroll Hill officiating. Burial will be in Johnstown Cemetery.
