May and her twin sister Emma were the 3rd and 4th children born to John L. Hanson & Annie Smith. May married (1st) John Marion Archer in 1909 in Morgan City. Before they had children, he died in 1914. May married (2) Edward Joseph Robisheaux in 1919 in Berwick who was a recent widower with 6 children. May never had any children of her own.

The Hanson House built by her father in 1858 was passed to Emma and May in 1911 and was owned by Emma's granddaughter in the 1940s. It is the oldest standing home in Berwick today.
