AVOCA—Coroner Henry Meyer of Council Bluffs announced Monday that no inquest would he held into the death of William Millis, 63, Avoca. Millis was instantly killed Saturday night when struck by an automobile at the north city limits of Avoca.

Millis was struck at 11:20 p.m. by a car driven by Harry F. Petersen, 34, Avoca, cement contractor, according to investigators. Millis, who was walking on the highway when struck, became Pottawattamie County's 11th traffic victim this year.

Millis suffered a crushed chest, compound fracture of both legs and severe head lacerations, He was thrown upon the hood and into the windshield of the car.

Petersen told Deputy Sheriff Bob Clark, State Highway patrolman A. W. Keller and Coroner Meyer that he was blinded by the lights of an oncoming car and did not see Millis until he was "on top of him.

Millis, former farmer and ex-tavern operator, had been in Avoca and was walking to his farm home about half mile north of town.

Petersen, his wife and two children and the driver's brother, Max Petersen, Avoca. had been to Harlan and were enroute home.

Funeral services for Mr. Millis were held from the Blust-Berthusen funeral home Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert N. D. Yoak officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery here.
Millis is survived by two sons, Marion of Des Moines and Kenneth of Minneapolis, Minn., a daughter, Mildred of Milwaukee, Wis., and a sister, Mrs. Earl Johnson of Kenmare, ND.
