John was the son of William Adam and Maggie Catherwood Thoman. William was born in Vandalia, Ill. on Dec. 27, 1886 and Maggie was born Nov. 4, 1886 in Ill. Sometime between 1930 and 1940 William and Maggie divorced. William died June 1, 1975 in Rochester, Ill. and Maggie passed away Dec. 15, 1955 in Springfield. John married Agnes Brownfield on Mar. 23, 1940 and when the 1940 census was taken he and his new wife were living with Agnes' parents. He and Agnes had 3 daughters together, they were Judith Lynn, Janice Kay, and Sheryl Rae.
John died suddenly while walking in the snow and was found when he did not return home.
John had three siblings and they were George A. b. 1912, Elizabeth A. b. 1914, and Joseph E. b. Feb. 4, 1920 and died Mar. 13, 1998 in Citrus Co., FL. Joseph served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII and became a Sgt. While in Europe he met his future wife Laura W. Elliot. They married in Paris, France on Feb. 20, 1945. She was also serving in the armed services. She was born May 5, 1921 in Atlanta, GA. and died Dec. 14, 2010 in Grand Ledge, MI. Joseph was buried in Roselawn Memorial Park and his wife was buried in AL. Her FAG #62930046.

She was the daughter of Isaac Pugh and Jane Underwood both born in TN. They had 6 children of which only 4 survived. They were Tillie M. b. Jun 1892, Kathy C. b. Aug. 1897 and Rowena b. 1901. Harriett died Feb. 28, 1934 in Olego, Fayette Co., Ill. and was buried in Pinhook Cemetery.
