Joseph E. Thoman, 78, of Beverly Hills, Fla., formerly of Springfield, died Friday at his residence.
He was born Feb. 4, 1920, in Bradfordton, the son of William A. and Maggie Catherwood Thoman.
He married Laura W. Elliott on Feb. 20, 1945, in Paris, France.
Mr. Thoman was a resident of Springfield for most of his life and owned a heating and air conditioning business.
He served as Sangamon County Clerk from 1958-62, and was employed by the state of Illinois from 1963 until retiring in 1976 as business administrator for the Illinois Youth Center, St. Charles.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II.
Survivors: wife, Laura W.; a daughter; a son; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
