Funeral Memorial Pamphlet:

Mrs. Betty Jane Baker Stevenson passed away peaceably on Sunday, 12 October 2014 at Kaiser Sunnyside Hospital surrounded by her family. She was the youngest and last surviving of six children of Herbert "Herb" Baker and Alta Ramer Baker. Betty was born in Hinckley, Illinois on 12 January 1924. She was named by her older brothers and sister, aged 5 to 12, as she was a “surprise baby” for the family and received her middle name from her grandmother Lucinda Jane Shoop Ramer. She came to Alsea, Oregon with her family as a young girl in 1929, where they farmed. Betty was valedictorian of her small graduating class at Alsea High School in 1941 and then attended Oregon State College (now University) for two years before having to leave due to World War II. Her parents moved to Corvallis in 1943 and Betty worked for the Corvallis Post Office.

Betty married Roland Daniel "Steve" Stevenson Jr. on 30 June 1946 at the First Methodist Church in Corvallis. Steve had been rooming with her parents while he worked on a power line outside of Corvallis when they met. Steve was an excavation engineer, and they lived in various locations in Oregon and Washington following Steve’s jobs until they settled in West Linn, Oregon in 1949 across from the original Buck Knife factory. Betty joined the Willamette United Methodist Church in West Linn in 1949 and was a member until her death. Betty was a homemaker for 25 years and they bought their first house at 4650 Bitner Street in the Sunset area of West Linn soon after their first child was born. They later lived moved to nearby 4568 Exeter Street where Betty lived until 1982.

After the death of Steve in 1968, Betty learned to drive, worked at the Post Office for several years, and then returned to College, earning a compressed clerical degree from Clackamas Community College in 1973. She started work with the State of Oregon Welfare Department in Portland in June 1973, rising to the position of Unit Clerk, and retiring in June 1989, having spent the last six years with the Asian Refugee program division.

Betty and Steve had three children, all surviving, Julie Stevenson Hart of West Linn, Roland Daniel "Dan" Stevenson III of Encinitas, California, and Richard Stevenson (wife Paz) of Chino Hills, California. Betty is also survived by four grandchildren (Christopher Hamilton (wife Stephanie) & Chad Hamilton (wife Hilerie) (both of Salem, Oregon), Justin Hart (wife Heather) (U.S. Air Force in Arizona), and Caitlin Hart Anderson (husband John) (of Oregon City, Oregon), six great-grandchildren (Mercedes “Cede” and Emma Hamilton; Gabe, David and Olive Hart; and Kimimila “Mimi” Anderson) and two step-great-grandchildren (Evalin & Jacquie Gomez). In addition, Betty was survived by two sister-in-laws (Arlene Baker of Albany, Oregon and Sammy Baker of Corvallis) and five nephews and nieces (Ronnie Baker and Bonnie Baker Pelle, both of California; Joan Baker Bloch of Portland; Darcy Baker Philpot of West Linn; and Scot Baker of Grass Valley, California).

In her later years Betty was lovingly cared for by her primary care-givers, her daughter Julie Stevenson Hart and grand-daughter Caitlin Hart Anderson.

Burial will be at the Mountain View Cemetery in Oregon City, next to her late husband. Grave-site services will be conducted by Pastor Jonathan Enz of the Willamette Methodist Church on October 17 at 1:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on 19 October at Willamette Methodist Church.
