John Anthony Baker, 90, of Vancouver, Wash., died Feb.12, 2009.

He was born July 23, 1918, in Peoria, Ill. (sic, should be Hinckley, DeKalb Co., IL), one of six siblings. His family later moved to the West Coast and settled in Oregon.

After completing high school, he joined the Naval Air Force and met his first wife, Beulah Barner, who was in the Coast Card. He married her on Oct. 20, 1951 (sic, should be 20 Oct 1950 at Gervais, Marion Co., OR).

In 1953, Mrs. Barner (sic, should be Baker) gave birth to a set of twins, Joan and Jayne. They were raised in Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1971.

Mr. Baker worked for the railroad and served in the Naval Air Reserve.

In 1995, Mrs. Baker died from a heart attack. He remarried in 1996. He and his second wife, Joan, moved to Vancouver, Wash., in 2004 to be closer to family.

In 2006, he moved to an adult foster home.

He was a member of the American Legion and Presbyterian Church. He also volunteered with the organization Loaves and Fishes.

He is survived by his wife Joan Baker; daughter Joan Bloch; sister Betty Stevenson; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

His first wife Beulah; daughter Jayne; brothers Joe, Bill and Ralph; and sister Mary died before he did.
