Son of James Henry Berkley and Margaret Edna Odd Berkley. Harlon was the oldest and first son of seven children, James Donald, Nina Edna, Robert Claybourne, Coleen Alilda, Timothy R and Patrick J. Berkley. Brothers Robert Claybourne Berkley died as a three year old in 1928 and the youngest Pvt. Patrick J Berkley died in action in Korea.

Harlon served his country as United States Marine and was wounded at Iwo Jima.

His family always called him by his middle name, Harlon. though his friends at work called him Bill. He loved his wife and very devoted to her. Took care of her when she was sick. He loved the desert and hot weather. Shared a love of rocks with his father and brother Don. Collected them for years.

He was a take charge kind of guy, always there to lend a helping hand. A very hard worker. Loved by all his family especially his sisters. He had no children but was greatly loved and will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
